WIB Entrevista: StarBuck

Confira a entrevista com o lutador canadense StarBuck:

Michael Majalahti, mais conhecido como StarBuck "The Canadian Rebel", é canadense e atualmente reside na Finlândia. Além de pro-wrestler, Starbuck também é treinador, artista gráfico, músico, comentarista esportivo, entre outras coisas. Ele faz parte de algumas bandas de rock, entre elas estão Crossfyre, Stoner Kings e Overnight Sensations. Ele comenta shows da WWE no canal de TV Eurosport. Foi o primeiro SMASH Champion da extinta SMASH Wrestling, conquistou vários cinturões pela Europa, e é um dos mentores da Fight Club Finland (FCF), empresa da Finlândia, na qual ele é um dos treinadores também.

WIB: Eu sei que você deve ouvir isso muito, mas seu ring-name tem alguma relação com a marca, Starbucks, famosa pelo café e tudo mais? Se não, explique para nós o motivo de você ter escolhido StarBuck como nome no ringue.

Starbuck: StarBuck é uma combinação de duas palavras: "Star e Buck". Star é auto-explicativo, como um superstar (Estrela). Buck significa "stud" (Palavra que significa Badass ou uma pessoa muito "foda"). Então o nome não tem nada a ver com a marca, e eu nem mesmo gosto de café. Eu originalmente escolhi o nome quando eu comecei com a minha banda de heavy rock, a Stoner Kings, 12 anos atrás.

WIB: I know you must heard this a lot but is your ringname related to that brand, Starbucks, famous for their coffees and such? If not, explain to us why did you choose that to be your ring name.

Starbuck: StarBuck is a combination of two words: Star and Buck. Star is self-explanatory, as in superstar. Buck means ”stud”, as in a real man, a thorobred. So the name has nothing to do with coffee, and I don't even drink coffee. I originally chose the name when I started my heavy rock band Stoner Kings in 2000 (www.myspace.com/stonerkings).

WIB: Como você descobriu o Pro Wrestling?

SB: Eu tinha cerca de 5-6 anos, morava em Timmins, Ontario, Canada, onde eu nasci. Minha familia estava visitando a casa de um amigo e ele estava com a TV ligada. Acontece que estava passando uma luta de Pro Wrestling, e tudo que eu lembro era um grande, loiro, musculoso e carismatico lutador na tela. Eu estava hipnotizado. Todo menino idolatra músculos e personagens com esteriótipos de super-heróis. Eu soube naquele momento que o Pro Wrestling era pra mim. Era como se super-heróis dos quadrinhos virassem reais.

WIB: How did you discover pro wrestling?

SB: I was about 5-6 years old, living in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, where I was born. My family was visiting a friend's place and they had the TV on. It happened to be a pro wrestling match, and all I remember was a big, blond, charismatic and muscular wrestler on the screen. I was spellbound. Every young boy idolizes muscles and superhero-like characters. I knew right then and there that pro wrestling was for me. It was like the comic book heroes coming to life.

WIB: Nós sabemos que você é um lutador canadense, mas, como você foi parar na Finlândia?

SB: Teve uma grande recessão fincanceira no Canadá nos anos '90. Eu mal conseguia me sustentar trabalhando como motorista de uma padaria local em Ontario e ao mesmo tempo lutando. Eu decidi me arriscar e tentar uma chance na Finlândia, pois meus pais são finlandeses e eu sabia a língua local, e esperar a recessão acabar. Meus planos nunca foram de ficar na Finlândia, e sim de voltar para o Canadá quando as coisas melhorassem. Eu me sustentaria com trabalhos ocasionais como construção e então voltar. Mas a vida é uma coisa estranha, eu comecei meu próprio negócio no ramo das artes gráficas como um ilustrador em 1996 na Finlândia e então, em 1999, eu me tornei um músico (Eu ainda sou um, a propósito), e então em 2003 eu comecei a treinar lutadores por toda a Escandinávia. Então eu ainda estou meio que "preso" por aqui. Eu sempre brinco sobre o fato de que Deus me colocou em seu grande estilingue e me jogou o mais longe possível no mundo. Mas ele tinha um plano divino para a minha vida quando Ele fez isso.

WIB: We know you are a Canadian wrestler but how did you end up in Finland?

SB: There was a bad financial recession in Canada in the mid-'90s. I was barely getting by working as a driver for a local bakery in Ontario and wrestling on the side. I decided to take a chance and go to Finland, since my parents are Finnish and I knew the language, and wait out the recession. My plan was never to stay in Finland, but to move back to Canada when things got better. I would just do odd-jobs like construction in Finland, and then go back. But life is strange, and I started my own graphic arts business as an illustrator in 1996 in Finland and then in 1999 I became a live musician (which I am to this day also), and then in 2003 I began coaching wrestlers all across Scandinavia. So I am still kind of ”stuck” here. I always joke that God put me in His big slingshot and catapulted my ass to the farthest corner of the world. But He had a divine plan for my life when He did that.

WIB: Então, você é um wrestler, músico, artista gráfico, personal trainer e várias outras coisas. Explique-nos como você se envolveu em tantas coisas.

SB: Eu sou multitalentoso. Minha filosofia é que você tem apenas uma vida para viver, então viva ela ao máximo e não viva com arrependimentos. Quando sua hora de morrer chegar, você estará feliz e realizado com a vida que você deixou pra trás? Eu farei de tudo para aproveitar ao máximo a minha vida e para que a minha contribuição para o mundo conte antes que o Senhor me chame. Eu fui presenteado com muitos talentos, e eu sou capaz de apostar tudo na mesa, fazendo minha vida mais feliz. Eu agradeço a Deus por isso.

WIB: So, you are a wrestler, musician, graphic artist, personal trainer, and tons of other things. Explain to us how did you got involved in so many things.

SB: I am multi-talented. My philosophy is that you only have one life to live, so live it to its fullest and don't live with regrets. When your time comes to die, will you be happy and fulfilled with the life that you will leave behind? I will bust my ass to live my life to the fullest and make my contribution count before the Lord calls me up. I was just gifted with many talents, and I am able to parlay them across the board, making my life very colorful. I thank God for that.

WIB: Você lutou por toda parte. Tem algum lugar que você não esteve ainda no qual você gostaria de fazer uma luta ou apenas para visitar?

SB: Islândia seria legal, pois é tão remota e fora do caminho de tudo. Entretanto, não existe Wrestling lá. Claro, existem vários países que eu gostaria de visitar. África do Sul seria legal, assim como China e Mexico. Especialmente México, pela tradição com a Lucha Libre. Eu já lutei em 17 países até agora então eu estou aberto para qualquer oportunidade que aparecer em um país que eu ainda não tenha visitado.

WIB: You wrestled all over the world! Is there any place you hasn't been yet that you would like to visit/wrestle?

SB: Iceland would be cool, because it is so remote and out of the way. There is no wrestling there, however. Sure, there are a ton of countries I would still like to see. South Africa would be cool, as would China and Mexico. Especially Mexico, because of the tradition there for Lucha Libre. I have 17 countries so far in pro wrestling, so I am open to visit any place I have not been yet.

WIB: E o Brasil? Você já considerou vir aqui para lutar ou para visitar?

SB: Vocês tem Pro-Wrestling no Brasil? Eu nunca ouvi falar. Claro, me contratem e eu estaria interessado, haha!

WIB:What about Brazil? Have you ever thought about coming here to either wrestle or to visit?

SB: Do you have pro wrestling in Brazil? I have not heard of it. Sure, get me booked and I would be interested, hahaa!

WIB: Nós sabemos que você é um comentarista da WWE no Eurosport, mas a verdadeira questão é: Você assiste outras empresas de wrestling além da WWE? E caso você assista, quais são suas favoritas?

SB: Claro que eu acompanho diversas empresas de wrestling. WWE, entretanto, é a líder, então é bom saber o que acontece por lá, até pelo espelho social da nossa indústria, sem contar o Mexico e Japão, no qual a cultura do wrestling é tão forte.

WIB: We know that you are a WWE commentator on Eurosport, but the real question is: Do you watch other wrestling companies, besides WWE? And if you do, wich ones are your favorites?

SB: Of course I follow all kinds of professional wrestling. WWE is however the industry leader, so it is only smart to be aware of what they are doing, because they are the social mirror for our industry, no counting Mexico and Japan, where their domestic wrestling culture is so strong.

WIB: Você é bem sucedido em tantas coisas que nós devemos perguntar, como você faz isso?

SB: Eu tenho a bênção do Senhor Jesus Cristo, no qual eu tenho fé. Eu digo isso para todo mundo. Minha vida é abençoada pois eu coloco ela nas mãos do Senhor, assim como o Provérbio 10:22 fala: "A bênção do Senhor é que enriquece; e ele não a faz seguir de dor alguma." DEUS abriu as portas para mim, eu só tive de andar. Oportunidade, ou é dada a você ou não. Você não pode forçá-la. Como o meu velho amigo Chris Jericho tem afirmado muitas vezes sobre Filipenses 4:13 "Posso suportar todas as coisas com a ajuda de Cristo, que é a fonte da minha força." As pessoas tem que perceber que nós estamos falando sobre o Criador aqui, não sobre uma dieta ou religião qualquer.

WIB: You are successful in so many things that we must ask, how do you do it?

SB: I have the blessing of the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom I have personal, saving faith. I tell that to everyone. My life is blessed because I have put my life in the LORD's hands, as Proverbs 10:22 states ”The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it”. God opens the doors for me, I just walk through them. Opportunity is either opened up to you, or it is not. You cannot force it. As my old buddy Chris Jericho has often stated from Philippians 4:13 ”I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. People have to realize we are talking about the Creator of all here, not some random diety or bullshit religion.

WIB: Você foi o primeiro campeão da SMASH Wrestling. O que você tem a falar sobre a empresa?

SB: Eu fui muito abençoado e fiquei muito feliz por ser o primeiro campeão da SMASH ano passado e eu tive uma passagem fantástica na empresa. Eles recentemente fecharam, mas a Wrestling New Classic continua de onde a SMASH parou, e nós estamos no canal J-Sports na TV do Japão, passando, inclusive, da WWE quando se trata de audiência. Meu novo time com AKIRA e Syuri está muito popular lá atualmente, e nós estamos fazendo shows por todo o Japão.

WIB: You were the first champion of SMASH Wrestling. What do you have to say about the company?

SB: I was very blessed and happy to become the first SMASH Champion last year, and I had a fantastic time with the company. They have since closed shop, but Wrestling New Classic continues where SMASH left off, and we are on J-Sports in Japan on TV, outdrawing even WWE in viewership numbers. My new team with AKIRA and Syuri is super-popular there right now, and we are kicking all all over the place across Japan.

WIB: StarBuck, você é incrível! Você já pensou em estrelar no próximo filme dos "Mercenários"?

SB: Hahaa, obrigado! Diga para o Sylvester Stallone me ligar e nós podemos fazer um acordo. Eu adoraria tentar a sorte com o cinema.

WIB: StarBuck, you are so awesome! Have you ever thought about being on the next "The Expendables" movie?

SB: Hahaa, thanks! Tell Sylvester Stallone to call me up and we can work something out. I would love to parlay my talents into the movies.

WIB: Agora chegou a hora da pergunta mais importante dessa entrevista: Qual é melhor, Os Simpsons ou Uma Família da Pesada (Family Guy)?

SB: Os Simpsons sofreram alguns contratempos dependendo de quem estivesse escrevendo a série. Chegou uma hora que começou a ficar politicamente correto e foi aí que eu perdi o interesse. Para ser honesto, eu não assisto muita TV. Eu mal assisto filmes. Eu sigo wrestling e apenas alguns atores, tais como: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Mel Gibson, Al Pacino e Robert DeNiro. A vida não é apenas TV e não é apenas viver através da fantasia. Vida é virar um super-herói real e fazer sua contribuição para o mundo contar.

WIB: Here's the most important question of this interview: You rather watch "The Simpsons" or "Family Guy"?

SB: The Simpsons have undergone some strange setbacks from time to time, depending on who was writing the series. At some point the show became politically-correct and I lost interest. To be honest, I don't watch TV at all really. I rarely even watch movies. I follow wrestling and a few of the moviestars that I like and their films: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sly Stallone, Mel Gibson, Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. Life is not about TV and living vicariously through fantasy. Life is about becoming a real-life hero yourself and making your contribution count.

WIB: Qual seu lutador favorito?

SB: Há muitos: Chris Benoit, Keiji Mutoh, Fit Finlay, Dick Murdoch, Ric Flair, Tiple H, Shawn Michaels, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Dan Kroffat, Hiroshi Hase e Mitsuharu Misawa são os que me vem a cabeça.

WIB: Who is your favorite wrestler (StarBuck is not a valid answer)?

SB: There are many: Chris Benoit, Keiji Mutoh, Fit Finlay, Dick Murdoch, Ric Flair, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Dan Kroffat, Hiroshi Hase and Misuhara Misawa all come to mind.

WIB: Qual foi sua luta pessoal favorita?

SB: Dentre todas as luta que eu já fiz, é difícial dizer. Talvez aquela na qual eu derrotei TAJIRI pelo SMASH Championship no último mês de outubro em Tóquio, ou a luta na qual eu perdi o FCF Championship para o TAJIRI em novembro de 2010. Ambas foram memoráveis. Eu fiz uma ótima 30-minute Iron Man Match em 2006 na qual eu perdi o FCF Championship para o Stark Adder, e essa foi uma das minha melhores. A luta na qual eu conquistei pela primeira vez o European Championship em 2006 foi um momento muito emocionante pra mim. É realmente muito difícil de dizer, houveram muitas ao longo dos anos. Para ser honesto, eu realizei muitas lutas muito boas.

WIB: What was your favorite personal match?

SB: Out of all the matches I have wrestled it is hard to say. Perhaps the one where I defeated TAJIRI for the SMASH Championship last October in Tokyo, or the match where I lost the FCF Championship to TAJIRI in November 2010. Both were memorable. I had a stellar 30-minute Iron Man match in May 2006 where I lost the FCF Championship to Stark Adder that is one of my best. The match where I won the European Championship for the first time in 2006 was a really emotional moment for me. It is really hard to say, there have been so many throughout the years. To be honest, I have had a lot of really good matches.

WIB: Quem é o seu melhor amigo no ramo do Pro Wrestling?

SB: Eu serei honesto com você: Eu não tenho melhores amigos nesse ramo. Assim como o ex-NWA World Champion, Harley Race, uma vez disse, sou solitário no topo. Em outras palavras, quando você chega ao topo da montanha, outros que ainda estão subindo sentem inveja e querem te derrubar, e não tem muita gente no topo, se é que você me entende.

Eu tenho poucas pessoas, mas poucas mesmo, das quais eu posso honestamente considerar amigos nesse ramo. A maioria são somente parceiros de negócio. Um amigo é uma pessoa na qual você pode confiar, e nesse ramo no qual é cada um por si, não tem muitas pessoas que você pode confiar que não irão enfiar uma faca em suas costas no momento em que você se virar.

A política no ramo do Pro Wrestling pode ser brutal, e existem "panelinhas" aonde quer que você vá, mas no geral, os melhores lugares para se lutar, pelo menos para mim, são: Japão, Noruega e Suécia. Isso contando com minhas experiências pessoais e de como eu fui recebido nesses locais. Eu acho que esses lugares tem a melhor moral nos vestiários.

WIB: Who's your best friend at the pro wrestling business?

SB: I will be honest with you: I really don't have a best friend in this business. Like former NWA World champion Harley Race once said, it's lonely at the top. In other words, when you make to the top of the mountain, tons of contemporaries still climbing up are jealous of you and they want to knock you down, and it's not too crowded at the top either, if you get my meaning. I have a few people, but very few, that I can honestly consider friends in this business. Most are just business associates. A friend is someone that you can trust, and in this dog-eat-dog business, there are not very many people that you can trust to not stick a knife in your back the moment you turn around. Politics in the wrestling business can be brutal, and there are cliques wherever you go, but overall the best atmosphere and places for me to wrestle are Japan, Norway and Sweden. That's speaking from personal experience and how I have been received in those markets. I think those places have the best morale in the locker rooms, and that is saying a lot.
